What drew you to Fairfield Glade?
“We both started planning for retirement back in 2019 and decided California would not be affordable for us and started to look at relocation sites. We had several criteria of where we wanted to live as listed below:
1. Low cost of living to optimize retirement savings
2. States with no state income tax or a state income tax not exceeding 5%
3. Moderate climate/temperature location
4. Abundance of outdoor activities (water sports, hiking, golf)
5. Close proximity to urban cities and cultural & sports events
We used 55places.com and Lakehouse.com to research our retirement destination considerations.
Frank had visited a Navy friend and his family in middle Tennessee many times back in the late 70’s & early 80’s in Gainesboro, so we focused on Tennessee mostly. We visited Tennesse 4 times to look at different Lake front real estate, and we found Fairfield Glade as our #1 choice due to Lake Dartmoor and the outdoor amenities for hiking, golf and the lake’s clean water.”
What design style did you go with?
“We selected Zurich’s Bordeaux plan with modifications and modern farmhouse style.”
How did you select Zurich Homes to build your house?
“We met with several Home builders that build in Fairfield Glade and that have the most experience in building around Lake Dartmoor. Choosing the right home builder when we were still living in California was the biggest challenge we had in our move to our new home.
We visited more than 20 homes from various builders, some multiple times. We narrowed our list down to 2 finalists and stopped by all their open houses on multiple visits to FFG. We were introduced to an owner that had been in their Zurich Bordeaux home for about 9 months and during our visit to their home, they raved about the quality and personal touches the Zurich team provides during the build process.
Our visit with this homeowner and our multiple visits and meetings with Isaac, Stan, Karen and Frank Miller made our choice of Zurich the right one. Zurich’s superior quality was evident in many of the homes we visited compared to the other builder candidate. And during the build process, it was clear that Zurich’s team will go the extra mile for their clients and they treated us like family. We are so glad to be part of the Zurich Homeowners alumni and are 6 months in our home and love it!”
What interior and exterior features do you love most about your home?
“The large kitchen with pantry, KitchenAid appliances with farmhouse sink, custom backsplash for kitchen and living room fireplace tile, high ceilings in all rooms with arches in hallways and kitchen/living room beam, office with Murphy bed, large screened in porch with accordion sliding door and fireplace, Anderson black casement windows, cedar posts and siding in front and back, 2 tone paint of white and iron ore, large storage area in lower level, incredible landscaping done by Oaklawn Farms.”
What do you like best about Fairfield Glade and this area?
“The winter is not too cold and the summer has mild temperatures and relatively low humidity due to Cumberland Plateau’s elevation. Lake Dartmoor and the sunsets are incredible, and FFG has very friendly people and relaxed pace of life.”
